Just look at these tiny lumps of happiness! Their appearance causes such emotion and delight that it is simply impossible to hold back a warm, sincere smile. It is easy to guess that we are talking about hamsters. Today, it is rodents that are the most common pets, since they do not require special conditions and maintenance skills, are pretty neat, and rarely get sick. And one of the most popular types of decorative hamsters is the Syrian hamster (Near Asian). Due to the yellow color of the coat, it is even called golden. What a noble name!
The Syrian hamster was bred from very rare wild hamsters found by chance on the territory of modern Syria in the twentieth century. But, unfortunately, in the natural habitat today it is almost impossible to meet them.
Basically, this breed is preserved thanks to pet lovers, although before they were used in laboratories for experiments.

The length of the body of an adult hamster is 12-19 centimeters. Females are slightly larger than males. The body is short but stocky.
Syrian rodents are the largest of all domestic species. Their muzzle is round, their ears are small, and their eyes look like black shiny beads. The tail is so small that many people think it’s not at all. In fact, he simply hides in the fur of this crumbs.
An interesting fact is that the rodent has 4 fingers on its front legs and 5 on its hind legs. Syrian hamsters are both long-haired and short-haired. In the first case, their fur is soft and thick, and the color can be very diverse, which especially distinguishes these hamsters from all others.

In addition, the Syrian hamster has a sense of intelligence, because it is very easy to tame. And how then he becomes affectionate and amiable! You can have fun with him for a long time, even playing on the couch.
Pet health and cleanliness
The Syrian hamster is one of the most tidy, because for him the maintenance of cleanliness and order of the home is of paramount importance. He devotes enough time to courting his beautiful fur coat. This difference will especially please fans of the perfect cleanliness of their home, because the hamster will not create any particular inconvenience and will not become a source of unpleasant odors.
A positive feature of this species is the fact that it has a much lower tendency to get sick than other rodents. If you take good care of your pet, be sure to keep an eye on food and sleep, then he will have excellent health.
But, unfortunately, despite his good health, the Syrian hamster will not live in captivity for more than 2-3 years. Unless rodents with a brown-gold fur coat, which are considered centenarians, and in rare cases live up to seven years.
Syrian hamster in your house
Caring for a Syrian hamster is so easy that even a child can do it. But first, still get acquainted with the basic requirements for care.
Good daytime baby sleep
This rodent is no different from other hamsters in its "owl" way of life. After all, it is with the onset of night that he wakes up, which can cause little inconvenience to the owners. Therefore, it is better to think over everything in advance and do not put his cage in the bedroom. At this time of day, the hamster can run up to 7 kilometers! In the afternoon, he usually sleeps soundly, and if you wake him up, you will be amused by the sleepy appearance of this baby. But still do not bother him at this time.
A medium sized cage (approximately 50 by 30 centimeters) is best suited for a hamster. Be sure to put a wheel for your pet so that he can run in it, with a diameter of about 18 centimeters.
Cover the bottom of the cell with sawdust, because they perfectly absorb odors and excess moisture.
But in no case do not use pieces of cotton wool or a newspaper for this purpose.
Hamsters love to spend time actively: hide, climb, run, jump and play. Therefore, be sure to provide your favorites with such an “amusement park” by placing different snags, huts and swings in a cage.
Syrian hamsters are not company lovers, so put your pet in a separate cage, with the exception of mating time. And do not worry that he will be bored. On the contrary, your hamster will take loneliness as a proof of love and care. For him, this is incomparable happiness.
In order for the Syrian hamster to be healthy and not sick, take care of a nutritious and varied diet. Indeed, otherwise, due to a lack of nutrients and vitamins, he will become seriously ill, and may even die young.
The most important rule that should be followed when eating your crumbs – in no case do not overfeed it. Therefore, balance his diet by feeding twice a day.
The main diet of the rodent
Of course, basically the Syrian hamster’s lunch should consist of grain mixtures and herbs, but it is also recommended to give him crispy goodies, which at the same time will serve to grind his constantly growing incisors.
Remember to include the following foods in your diet:
These, and some other fruits and vegetables, will become a real delicacy for Syrian rodents.
Do not give hamsters (like all rodents):
- Dairy products (cheese can);
- Chocolate, and generally sweet;
- Fats and oils.
But besides food, also take care of clean water at room temperature. She must constantly stand in a cage so that your pet can remove thirst at any time.
To reproduce offspring, a female must be four months old, and a male three months old.
18 days after mating, your hamsters will have about 4-15 tiny funny hamsters. The first 28 days they will only eat mother’s milk, so do not feed them.
Hamsters week old
On the 29th day of life, start feeding babies, including protein-rich foods in their diet. They provide the mother with food during feeding.
In no case do not touch newborn babies with your hands, as the female will hear someone else’s smell and at the same time eat the baby. To avoid such a tragedy, create absolute peace for the mother, put the cage in a darkly quiet place and be sure to jail other hamsters.
And then newborn fluffy lumps will bring you a sea of positive emotions.
And remember – we are responsible for those who have tamed!
